State police : The FIGN commander resigns 09/03/2010 | 12:27:22

The State Police is progressively heading for the blockade. General Zafera, commander of the National State Police’s Intervention Force, has resigned. According to rumours, he would be expecting for the same move from General Bruno Razafindrakoto, State Police’s commander in chief.

Talks between Camille Vital, HAT Prime minister compelled to personally tackle the growing problem, and the FIGN elements, is being scheduled before long. General Zafera’s resignation might influence the sway. Could the commander in chief follow suit, the situation would finally head for a lull. Such an eventuality has actually been required by the FIGN on the basis of suspicion of embezzlement of bonuses dedicated to state policemen.

On March 8th, a state police chiefs’ meeting is meant to address the issue. The armed forces ministry also pokes its nose in it, as well as the HAT Premier. General Zafera decided to resign as a sign of good will. It might, however, not contribute so much to moderation, since his subordinates have been vehemently requiring for the State Police’s commander in chief to hit the road. General Zafera definitely knew that he would not be able to oppose his men’s wrath, let alone their determination to push as far as necessary to defend their claims.
