Assessment of the crisis: talks organized by Fetison Andrianirina in the Carlton hotel
04/02/2010 | 12:04:24
The cochairman of the late Transition was able to open the round of talks meant to gather options to settle the crisis, in the Carlton hotel. Basically planned to last for a couple of days, the round only lasted for one of them.
Fetison Andrianirina himself has appeared and opened the round of talks meant to gather as many possible settlements of the Malagasy political crisis as possible. In spite of stand opposition, various reluctances and schedule changes, the round definitely took place
The Co President of the late Transition was anxious to specify that the talks' initiative was his. About one hundred people responded to his call. The High Authority of Transition did officially not send any representation, but some figures close to the current regime have been noticed, as retired general Ferdinand Razakarimanana.
The civil society had, on the contrary, a massive presence in the Carlton hotel's hall. Marc Ravalomanana's party was basically supposed to appear, but it finally did not. The ousted president would not have appreciated this move according to members of his mobility. It might be the main account for the schedule change.
Fetison Andrianirina's very presence to open the talks was a surprise for many people. So far that it has been known, the man was being threatened by an arrest warrant, but a warrant which would have recently been suspended according to one of Antananarivo city's daily newspaper.
